Rumor: Ame Could Consider Dota 2 Comeback After Asian Games 2022 Win

Wang “Ame” Chunyu, former carry for LGD Gaming who’s been on a break since The International 2022 (TI11), might return to Dota 2 esports, according to recent rumors. A screenshot of a conversation between an unidentified person and LGD owner Pan “Ruru” Jie has been widely circulated in the Chinese Dota 2 community, as reported by a Chinese Dota 2 blog website.

The rumors have reportedly gained traction following China’s triumphant victory at the Asian Games 2022, where it secured a resounding 2-1 victory over Mongolia in the Grand Finals on 2nd October.

Ame Comeback Rumors Sparked by Asian Games 2022 Triumph

From the screenshot that is being circulated, we can see the unnamed individual extended their congratulations to Ruru for the Chinese Dota team’s remarkable achievement at the 19th Asian Games, where it clinched the gold medal. The person then mentioned fervent chants from fans at the event, calling for Ame’s return to professional play. Replying to the message, Ruru hinted that “it’s possible” for Ame to return.

Notably, Ame was moved to the inactive roster of LGD Gaming on 7th December. For months now, Ame’s dedicated fanbase has been imploring him to make a comeback to the competitive scene. Interestingly, in February 2023, on a livestream, Ame communicated to his viewers that he was not interested in competing in any professional Dota 2 tournaments this year and that discussions about creating a new team with Lu “Somnus” Yao were unlikely to come to fruition.

While initially he said he would not be competing in any Dota 2 tournament, his decision to compete at the Asian Games 2022 alongside his former teammates from LGD left fans in awe. Ame was a crucial part of the national team of China that won the Dota 2 tournament in the Asian Games 2022.

During the Asian Games, fans saw the trio of former PSG.LGD players — Ame, Lu “Somnus” Yao, and Yang “Chalice” Shenyi — reunited. The team also had Zhao “XinQ” Zixing and Yu “皮球” Yajun.

Fans should note that this conversation about Ame’s comeback is merely a rumor. Neither Ame nor LGD Gaming has issued an official statement regarding this matter. Notably, the last time Ame participated in a Dota 2 tournament, apart from the recently-concluded Asian Games 2022, was TI11.

It is premature to draw any definitive conclusions regarding Ame’s potential reunion with LGD. Nevertheless, these rumors have ignited excitement among the team’s supporters and Ame’s fans. Ame’s status as one of the best Dota 2 players in the world suggests that his return would be a significant boon for LGD Gaming or any team he joins in the future.
