Activision Reveals Vladimir Makarov’s Return to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Activision released a Makarov Reveal Trailer on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel and it has a lot of players wondering who he is. Call of Duty veterans who have played most of the older games in the franchise will know exactly who this iconic villain is. But if you are relatively new to Call of Duty and do not know who Makarov is and why fans are so excited about his appearance, keep reading to find out more about him.

Who is Makarov and why are veteran Call of Duty fans excited?

Vladimir Makarov is the primary antagonist in the Modern Warfare video game series. He leads an extremist group and is linked to Imran Zakhaev, another key figure. In the games, Makarov is the unseen main villain in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, a villain in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the main adversary in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He is also briefly featured in Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Makarov is known for his brutal strategies and is behind various acts of terrorism throughout the series. He manipulates events from behind the scenes and causes major conflicts, including World War 3. He’s characterized by his willingness to sacrifice lives for his objectives. He even betrays his only known friend, Yuri, to further his goals. Makarov justifies his actions by believing the outcomes are worth it by any means necessary. His ultimate defeat comes at the hands of John Price.

Makarov holds a grudge against Price and Soap (John “Soap” MacTavish) because he blames them for Imran Zakhaev’s death. Newspaper clippings in his hideout showcase his responsibility for terrorist attacks in London and Moscow, aiming to overthrow the controlling Ultranationalist Party in Russia.

Makarov will make an appearance during the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 campaign and will serve as the primary antagonist of the story. Players who have played the original Modern Warfare 3 will be excited for the villain to make a return. We can expect more information about the villain to be revealed as part of the Modern Warfare 3 reveal event on 17th August.
